Perfect Game Baseball
NL West
Arizona Diamondbacks-
Read this sentence once and then read it again: Randy Johnson is 37. Now that we have that out of the way, realize that Johnson threw 272 innings last year. The pitching is still solid, although it seems Todd
Stottlemyre is still a question mark coming back from injury. The offense seems sure to slow down, after almost everybody not named Travis Lee had career years.

Colorado Rockies-
They lost Dante Bichette and Darryl Kile (good) and signed Jeff Cirillo (good). Now they need to find pitchers that can pitch in Coors. If they can do that, not only will they win, but they will be hailed as geniuses. Too bad they can't

San Francisco Giants
The Giants were in the race for the division crown last year before they collapsed. I think the Giants will win this division in 2000.

Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers can't win. Who else would we have to laugh at? Oh, the Orioles. Well, they picked up Shawn Green, which is a step in the right direction. But can the rest of the pitching staff besides Kevin Brown pitch well? What does Kevin Brown do with all that money?

San Diego Padres
Go from NL champs to (74-88) in one year. Even though they put together an exciting winning streak, they were out of contention from the very beginning. They picked up Bret Boone and Ryan Klesko but still won't be competitive.

NL Central
Houston Astros
They lost Mike Hampton, Carl Everett, and Derick Bell. The Hampton trade got rid of the worst hitting regular in baseball in Bell and an Ace in Hampton. It brought in a new leadoff man and a pitcher that could be a No. 1 in a couple of years. Word from Spring Training is that Adam Everett, the SS that came to Houston for Carl Everett, could be starting by mid-season. I'm going to say it now. The Astros will win the Central and Bagwell will hit 60 HR. (Well maybe not 60, maybe though.)

Cincinatti Reds
So someone made a big deal in the offseason. I still don't think that the Reds can overachieve so much this season. They still will be a good team but not a playoff team.

St. Louis Cardinals
They were pretty busy in the offseason, realizing they don't want to be the Mariners of the NL. No pitching, so no playoffs. They still won't win the Central as almost everybody is predicting (and has predicted the past three years). I saw someone call Daryl Kile the 2000 Cy Young award winner. Is this the same Daryl Kile that has only been good in the Astrodome?

Milwaukee Brewers
Thing I like about the Brewers: the new logo with the M and the grain. Not much else. Maybe next year they can pick up a few good free agents.

Chicago Cubs
From playoff team to 95 losses. The team isn't playoff worthy, but new manager Don Baylor will do a good job in the Windy City.

NL East
Atlanta Braves
The Braves get back
Andres Galarraga and Javy Lopez. While they will still win the East, they will have increased competition from the...

New York Mets
They picked up Mike Hampton and Derick Bell in the offseason but had to give up Roger Cedeno and promisng Octavio Dotel in the process. They will probably get the Wild Card if they don't win the East.

Philidelphia Phillies
The Phillies really disappointed me last year. I was hoping for them to win the East before they collapsed. Sadly, this year won't be any better.

Florida Marlins
Well at least they have future talent.

Montreal Expos
At least they will be better than last year. Here is hoping they are still in Montreal a year from now.
